Danielle, a former saha Preston Foyer resident, shares her inspirational story.
Danielle arrived at Preston Foyer after a turbulent few years that saw her go from sleeping rough in a car park and attempting to take her own life she was referred to saha through Bay 6 in Preston.
With the help of her saha support worker Danielle started on a Princes trust course to help her develop her personal skills.
This lead to Danielle recently achieving a Princes Trust breakthrough award which focuses on recognising the progress of young people who have overcome barriers and developed new skills.
Seen as a ‘mother hen’ in the foyer she wanted to help as many people as she could and with the help of VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) she travelled to India on a three-month teaching placement.
Danielle said: “Going to India made such a big impact on me, it made me realise that no matter how big your problems seem, other people are struggling too, I just wanted to bring everyone home and look after them!”
Danielle is now looking to return to India this year to undertake a 6 month placement that will see her supervising a team of volunteers.
