Honour based violence is a crime or incident which has or may have been committed to protect or defend the honour of the family and/or community.
Examples of honour-based violence
Honour-based violence includes:
- physical abuse (kicking and beating);
- psychological pressure (strict monitoring, humiliation, threats);
- forced marriage;
- abandonment (leaving someone in their country of origin or sending them back there);
- forced suicide;
- honour killing (murder).
